Magic Moments
The Weddingparadises.com interview with:
Jacqui Holloway, Magic Moments wedding planning services
& Adam and Eve stag and hen party planning
In which year did you start your wedding planning business and which reasons made you
start working in this job?
I started the company back in 2003 with my sister-in-law. I had just married myself and having organised it myself and after many many compliments a seed was sewn to start studying. It was not until my sister-in-law chose to marry in Cancun, Mexico that it was so obvious that I was made for this role. Her wedding planner had forgotten to organise the photographer, hair, make-up as well as flowers. Having never been there before I managed to organise everything in one day and even had her room decorated!
Do you work alone or in a team?
After getting pregnant for a second time my sister-in-law decided not to continue and so I work alone mainly and have colleagues that I call upon when very busy.
In which languages can you take care of your customers?
I speak fluent English and Maltese. My colleagues speak fluent Italian so 3 languages in all.
What are the main regions where you are planning weddings?
Malta and Gozo
What are your personal favourites regarding:
a) a location for a destination wedding in your home region?
Mini Palazzo in Naxxar, or Sliema.
b) a location for a destination wedding in the rest of the world?
As I am a born romantic, I would have to say English or Scottish castle or the other extreme, Bali........
c) a location for a wedding reception in your home region?
Wow we have soooo many beautiful venues to choose from, this is very hard. I love Palazzo Parisio, it has the glamour and yet charm of an English country garden. It is also very sersitle as it offer the cellars for after parties - it ticks all the boxes for me, but be prepared to pay quite a bit for this venue - It is a very exclusive venue and worth every cent!
d) a country / region / hotel for a honeymoon?
New Zealand, Thailand, Bali, Africa
Have you organised weddings for prominent people?
I have but cannot say or send photos due to privacy agreement.
I can, however, send you a picture of an American songwriter/techno DJ now living n Berlin that I booked the wedding in 6.5weeks! from time I received their email of their decision to wed a day before his performance in Malta. He goes by the name of The Horrorist (although I know him as Oliver Chesler and his wife Julie) see pictures attached. In fact you can see me working in the background (hahaha)
Their wedding theme was pink and green.
Have you organised weddings for couples from outside your country?
The answer is yes. I have had the pleasure to work on couples from as far as New Zealand, Australia, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Russia, America, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Denmark. I would say the more popular countries where couples visit from are England and Ireland due to price comparison of a wedding back home and availability of flights at great rates.
Which strengths of your company would you like to mention?
There are so many but I would say the main ones are: My honesty when quoting and suggesting, personal approach, professionalism, prices, dedication to quality and detail, great imagination, ability to stick to a budget and still give couples their dream wedding, being creative, being prepared and organised just to mention a few.
Could you tell us a little story about something special that you have experienced during your work as a wedding planner?
The one that springs to my mind right now is where the groom as shy as he was wrote a song and then sang it to his bride just before the first dance. It was from the heart and took guts to get up in front of everybody and sing but he did it beautifully and there was not a dry eye in the room.
Another special day was when the bride who is the lead singer of a local band, chose not to have a first dance but to sing instead with her band - dedicated to her new husband. The groom got into the spirit of things and learnt how to play the drums for the song. It was great and very different from the 'usual wedding'. I will send you a couple of pics taken by myself during this.
Is there any movie about your work?
No, but I will try to get something on and when I do will forward you a copy.
You might have heard about the upcoming new yearly event "Weddingparadises.com Wedding Planning World Championship" and the website www.youweddingplanner.com, where all multiple choice questions for the competition
will be published soon. - If you could choose one question for this about something special in your home region: how would this question look like?
Where has The Malta Public registry finally agreed to allow legal binding civil ceremonies to take place;
a) On a Boat?
b) On a Sandy beach?
c) In the Air?
Ans: B.
